Exercise, Eat Right, ENJOY LIFE!

Updated: Jan 13, 2022

No one can deny aging. With every passing year, people see a potential decline in their health, mobility, depression, isolation, reduced body mobility, and much more. Research suggests that in the year 2019 around 703 million people in the world were 65 years and above. And this number is going to double to 1.5 billion in the year 2050. The aging society of the world is known to ignore their health and overall functionality. All of this is influenced by various factors such as demographics, environmental changes but above all, physical activities and dietary habits.

Contrary to what we may believe, unlike any other age group, seniors are now more conscious about their health and fitness. They are giving more importance to self-care by focusing on physical activities and diet. This new way of living helps in lowering mortality rates by decreasing disease risks.

What happens when we age?

The aging population usually face more body fat and decreased muscle mass as they get older. The reduction in muscle mass means low muscle strength, low maximal aerobic capacity, and very low bone density. With every passing year, seniors may also face low insulin sensitivity, a high risk of type 2 diabetes, and much more.

On the other hand, aging leads to low metabolism, low physiological functioning, etc. The reason behind such changes in your body is because of low energy intake, poor eating habits and less physical activities.

Medical research states, seniors can even face a high level of the satiety hormone, low testosterone levels, inflammatory disorders, low appetite, and other chronic diseases like hypertension, hyperlipidemia, etc.

Exercise is not a bad word!

There is no age bar to start exercising and involve a healthy diet in your routine. Here are some of the reasons to understand why diet and exercise are important for the elderly:

Health benefits of doing daily exercise and eating healthy:

  • Maintain or shred weight – your metabolism slows down with increasing age. Therefore, you may face difficulty maintaining or lose your weight. But with regular exercise, you can improve your metabolism and can build great muscle mass.

  • Can avoid the serious impact of chronic diseases and constant illness – seniors who are adopting regular exercise routines experience improved immune and digestive systems. This also results in normal blood pressure levels, low risks of osteoporosis, cancer, Alzheimer’s, etc.

  • Great mobility, body flexibility – by exercising daily, you can improve your strength, body posture, flexibility, etc. You may also see great changes in conditions like arthritis etc.

  • Boost your mood – by eating healthy and exercising daily you may see a great improvement in your mood swings. Also, you will feel active all day long.
